Qigong Classes

This discipline gives people the tools and experience for improving their overall health, strength and vitality. ‘Qigong’ (pronounced ‘Chee gung’), means cultivation of internal energy and has been practised for centuries in China. Its benefits are now widely known in the West, and it is becoming increasingly popular here. It is similar to Tai Chi but more easily learned, and people with all levels of fitness can gain enormous benefit.

This is no ordinary exercise class, but a tried and tested holistic system that is safe and enjoyable. More awareness is developed about our individual needs and appropriate exercise, stretching to our own soft limit. Many problems are helped with seemingly little actual effort. It is a dignified form of exercise that is revitalising both physically and mentally. This is why people in China practice Qigong into mature years; it builds strength and immunity whilst restoring comfort in the body.

The exercises involve increasingly focused stretches, repeated movements and held postures. There is also a meditative component, which serves to clarify thought and concentration; together these practices bring about balance in the body, relieve tension, improve overall energy levels and develop a positive outlook.

Needing no specialist equipment, comfortable clothing is all that is required. Classes are normally for one hour and the benefits start to be felt very quickly.

I have practised Qigong for many years and have studied under Zhixing Wang, one of the most highly regarded of Qigong Masters. It has been integral to preserving my one stability, strength and health, to compliment my work as a Shiatsu practitioner.
