Somatic Breathwork

What Is Somatic Breathwork? A Different Way to Reset Your Mind and Body

Over the past few months, one question comes up more than any other:

“What actually is breathwork?”

It’s a fair question.

Because breathing is something we do automatically—every second of every day. We don’t think about it. We don’t question it. And we rarely consider that it could be one of the most powerful tools we have to change how we feel.

But that’s exactly what somatic breathwork does.

What Is Somatic Breathwork?

Somatic breathwork is a guided practice that uses conscious, connected breathing to work directly with your body and nervous system.

The word “somatic” simply means working with the body as it is experienced from within—not analysing it, not overthinking it, but actually feeling and processing what’s there.

Instead of trying to think your way out of stress, anxiety, or overwhelm…

You breathe your way through it.

This allows the body to:

· Release stored tension

· Regulate the nervous system

· Shift out of stress responses

· Return to a natural state of balance

No pressure. No performance. No need to “get it right.”

Why Is It Different?

Most approaches to wellbeing focus on the mind:

· Talking therapies

· Problem-solving

· Trying to “figure things out”

Somatic breathwork takes a different approach.

It recognises that:

Your body holds onto stress, emotion, and past experiences—whether you’re consciously aware of them or not.

So instead of asking: “What’s wrong?”

It asks: “What is your body ready to release?”

Through the breath, we bypass the need to analyse—and go straight to where change actually happens: the nervous system.

The Mind–Body Connection (Why This Matters)

Many of the things people struggle with aren’t just “mental”:

· Stress

· Anxiety

· Burnout

· Chronic pain

· Emotional overwhelm

These are nervous system responses, not just thoughts.

When your system has been in a prolonged state of stress, it can become stuck in patterns like:

· Constant alertness

· Fatigue and shutdown

· Tension and pain

Somatic breathwork helps to gently interrupt those patterns by sending a clear signal to the body:

“You’re safe. You can let go.”

And when the body feels safe, it naturally begins to:

· Release

· Reset

· Rebalance

What Is Somatic Breathwork Used For?

This work is incredibly versatile. It can support:

· Everyday stress and busy lifestyles

· Anxiety and overwhelm

· Burnout and nervous system fatigue

· Chronic pain and tension (including conditions like fibromyalgia)

· Emotional release and processing

· Deep relaxation and reconnection

· Personal growth and clarity

And sometimes…

It’s simply about giving yourself permission to pause.

Why Work With Me?

My approach to breathwork isn’t just something I’ve learned—it’s something I’ve lived.

Through my own experience with Fibromyalgia, I spent years trying to manage symptoms, searching for answers, and being offered solutions that never quite addressed the root of the issue.

Breathwork was different.

Not because it was a quick fix—but because it gave me a way to:

· Work with my body instead of against it

· Calm my system naturally

· Create space for real, sustainable change

Alongside breathwork, I bring experience in:

· Goal Mapping

· Addiction recovery coaching

· Nervous system regulation practices

Which means I don’t just guide sessions—I understand the deeper layers of what people are moving through.

What to Expect in a Session

Sessions at the Exmouth Healing Centre are designed to be safe, supportive, and deeply restorative.

You’ll simply:

· Lie down (or sit comfortably)

· Be guided through a structured breathing pattern

· Be supported throughout the experience

There’s nothing to achieve.

No expectation.

Just space—for your body to do what it already knows how to do.

A Different Approach to Wellbeing

We live in a world that tells us to:

· Push harder

· Think more

· Fix everything

Somatic breathwork offers something different.

It invites you to stop.

To breathe.

To reset.

And often, that’s where the real shift begins.

Ready to Experience It for Yourself?
